	Abstract:	The William Keating collection consists of four volumes of records. Three volumes are his personal cash book, which records his financial transactions from 1830-1839. The fourth volume is a survey book. This volume contains detailed descriptions of land that the Keatings' owned in Pennsylvania, likely purchased under or associated with the Holland Land Company. 	Abstract:	Written in 1797, this essay discusses Tennessee's soil, climate, and environment. The tract appears to be promotional – noting that "no other milk or butter has such flavor and richness as that afforded from the cows that feed" in the state – but also reflects the enthusiasm many Americans held for the opportunity these western lands afforded them. 	Abstract:	The small survey books of John Lukens contain various land surveys that Lukens undertook throughout Pennsylvania. The Lukens family was a prominent surveying family with close ties to the proprietary government. The books do not contain any sketches, but are instead a listing of coordinates and features that can be used to demarcate land. Notably, there is little in the surveys about the Connecticut dispute, although items on the Lukens' involvement in that event can be found in other collections, such as the Eastwick Collection. 	Abstract:	The Benjamin Vaughan Papers contain an extensive amount of correspondence and other documents. MOLE contains a detailed inventory of its holdings. Vaughan was a prominent figure in the revolutionary Atlantic. This large collection captures the complex and high profile life Benjamin led. He was born in the Caribbean but grew up in London. He became a friend of Franklin and his circle in London in the 1770s. During the War for Independence, he served as an emissary to the peace negotiations between the U.S. and British. He then spent a few years in Switzerland before emigrating to the United States with his wife. They settled in Maine, where Vaughan dabbled in speculation, farming, and other pursuits. His brother John became active in the American Philosophical Society. View finding aid for a full description

	Abstract:	George Gauld served as a surveyor in the British Army. Stationed in Florida after the Seven Years' War, this collection contains his general observations of the recently acquired territory. Its MOLE entry is very detailed. There are two other general features that should be mentioned. First, Gauld's essay contains smatterings of references to Native Americans and occasionally local Native American names for geographic features. The second is that this document captures part of the imperial consolidation Great Britain began in the wake of the Seven Years' War. View finding aid for a full description

	Abstract:	The Mason and Dixon Survey Collection consists of two volumes relating to their work drawing a border between Pennsylvania and Maryland and a box of correspondence. This entry describes the two volumes. One contains the Penn family's costs, which goes into specific details about items purchased and used for the venture. The second volume is a manuscript copy of the commissioners' minutes from 1760-1768. The commissioners were representatives of both Baltimore and Penn, and gave directions to Mason and Dixon. The minutes contain negotiations between the commissioners, which provide insight into surveying methods and the various disagreements between the two sides about boundaries, particularly as they relate to the Delmarva Peninsula. There are a few mentions of Indians and diplomacy, especially around 1767 when Mason and Dixon were extending the line into the Ohio Country. View finding aid for a full description
